Artist statement
'Nafanua' is the working title of my latest film work and this 'work in progress' showing
will be of the dance material that I have developed during a series of workshops in 2008
and this forum. 'Nafanua' is a reference to Samoa's warrior goddess. In this work I
explore the notions of intergenerational relationships between three generations of
Samoan women. Using the Samoan legend of Sina ma Tuna in the foreground, I wish to
present a work that is both dance theatre and culturally referenced while presenting my
view of contemporary urban Aotearoa NZ.
